Together with the group of Ulf Kahlert from the University of Düsseldorf, PAASP’s Björn Gerlach published an article in F1000Research on using an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) to improve open science. Ulf and his team have established a freely available ELN in their research environment and are using it with great success. The solution is called eLabFTW and its application is described in this article. The authors also discuss: a) the decision-making process for choosing eLabFTW, b) how it was implemented to make best use of its different functionalities, c) how it contributes to an open research environment, and d) how it fits into the quality initiatives run in their research lab.
